In place of argument, the prime minister has relied on mechanical soundbite or on citation of the referendum result. The days of “Brexit means Brexit” are over – or at least they should be. Since losing her majority, the prime minister has shown nothing but fear and contempt for parliament. The EU withdrawal bill has been designed to deny MPs a role in shaping Britain’s post-Brexit legislative landscape. And when she returns, she might try engaging more respectfully with parliament too.
